Feb Insights: 3D Configurators, AI Agents, & The “Non-Human” User

Project Spotlight: Automating Custom Manufacturing

The Challenge: Our client, TreeDimension, needed to sell custom 3D-printed terrain maps. The traditional process required manual CAD work for every single order—a massive bottleneck.

The Solution: We built a “Zero-Touch” Configurator.

  • The Stack: React JS (Shopify Polaris) + Node.js + A custom Python Microservice.
  • The Engineering: We integrated Mapbox and Strava to pull elevation data, then used NumPy to process it into watertight, 3D-printable STL files in real-time.
  • The Result: A customer designs a map on Shopify, and the manufacturing file is generated instantly without human intervention.

Strategy: “Doers” vs. “Thinkers”

If you are looking to modernize your operations, let us help you distinguish between two types of tech:

  • Automation (The Doer):
    Logic-based. If X happens, do Y.
Best for: Stability. (e.g., Syncing Shopify orders to your ERP).
  • AI Agents (The Thinker):
    Reasoning-based.
Best for: Complexity. (e.g., Reading a customer email, checking inventory, and drafting a personalized reply for approval).

Don’t replace your reliable automations with AI. Layer AI on top to handle the decisions and “gray areas” that scripts can’t handle.

For SaaS Founders: The Rise of the “Invisible User”

If you own a SaaS product, you have likely spent time optimizing your UI for humans. But the next wave of users won’t be humans—they will be AI Agents.

Agents don’t browse pricing pages or admire dashboards. They choose tools based on API reliability and explicit failure states.

Is your SaaS “Agent-Ready”?

  • ✅ Headless Functionality: Can your core value be delivered via API without touching the UI?
  • ✅ Recoverable Failures: Do your error logs explain why something failed so an Agent can self-correct?
  • ✅ Action-Based Pricing: Does your pricing map to API calls/actions rather than just “seats”?

The easier your product is for a machine to use, the faster it will be adopted in an AI-first world.
